  • The Center for Internet Security, Inc. “is a non-profit entity that harnesses the power of a global IT community to safeguard private and public organizations against cyber threats.” The CIS Critical Security Controls are the global standard for securing IT systems and data against cyber-attacks. The controls are grouped into three families:
  • Basic: implemented at the infrastructure or system Administration level
  • Foundational: implemented in the wired or wireless network infrastructure
  • Organizational: non-technical controls focused on people and processes

The goals are to:

  • Clearly define each of the 20 critical controls
  • Review the business goal that the control addresses
  • Explain why the control should be put in place
  • Define the security threat that is addressed by the control
  • Identify the weakness that the control uncovers
  • Provide implementation recommendations

The Session will cover the following areas:

  • A discussion of Information Technology Strategic Management
  • Development and updating of the 20 critical cyber controls by the Center for Internet Security (CIS)
  • The 20 controls themselves by family
  • Basic: implemented at the infrastructure or system Administration level
  • Foundational: implemented in the wired or wireless network infrastructure
  • Organizational: Non-technical controls focused on people and processes

To better your understanding of the cybersecurity environment as it exists today. This is a non-technical review of critical cybersecurity controls designed with a minimum of “techno-jargon” focused on communicating, to business leaders, and the importance of cybersecurity controls in today’s business environment.
